Free Crochet Popsicle Amigurumi

This cute, vibrant little popsicle amigurumi is perfect for adding a splash of summer fun to your crochet projects!

Popsicles are a favorite summer treat in our house. Actually, we enjoy them year round, but most often during the warmer, summer months! I hope you enjoy this cute crochet version of these fun treats!

One of my favorite things about crocheting a popsicle amigurumi is the endless color combinations there are to choose from! You could go with the classic rocket style popsicle with the blue, white, and red, or even a fun rainbow popsicle with 5 or more colors! Whether you stick with three or four colors, or go all out with the whole rainbow, your popsicle amigurumi will turn out adorable!

This popsicle amigurumi is crocheted in one-piece from the top down, finishing off with the brown popsicle stick. No sewing is required, other than weaving in your ends at the end of the project!

Below, you’ll find instructions for a 3 and 4 color popsicle, but you can easily add on more colors, if you’d like! There are notes on adding more colors in the pattern information below.

Enjoy working up your popsicle amigurumi! I can’t wait to see which colors you choose!

Materials:

  • Worsted Weight #4 yarn – You can use any worsted-weight yarn for this project. The popsicle amigurumi pictured was made with WeCrochet/Knit Picks Brava Worsted yarn. You’ll only need a few yards of yarn in each color (3 colors for the popsicle and then a tan/brown color for the stick).
  • 3.5 mm crochet hook
  • Safety Eyes – 9 mm size
  • Stuffing – any fiber-based stuffing
  • Embroidery or crochet thread – a small amount of black for the eyelashes and mouth.
  • Yarn needle (for weaving in ends and attaching pieces together) – bent yarn needles work great for amigurumi projects.
  • Scissors – for cutting yarn ends

Stitches Used:

  • Ch – chain
  • Sl St – slip stitch
  • SC – single crochet
  • DC – double crochet
  • SC DEC –single crochet decrease

Gauge

  • 2”x2” = approx. 7 rows of 10 SC stitches

Finished Size

  • When finished, the 3-color popsicle measures approximately 5” tall. The 4-color popsicle measures approximately 6” tall.

Important Notes:

  • Worked in rounds – This pattern is worked in continuous rounds starting with a magic circle. At the end of each round, you will not be joining the last stitch of the round with the first one. Instead, you’ll be continuing right on to the stitches of the next round (with no join). It is useful to use a stitch marker (or a piece of yarn) to mark the start or end of each round to keep track of where you are in the pattern.
  • Magic Circle – Make a circle with your yarn, insert crochet hook into circle and draw up a loop. Chain one and then start making the stitches of round 1 into the ring. This video tutorial will show you the magic circle and working the first rounds of stitches.
  • Popsicle colors and height – the popsicles pictured in this pattern are made with three or four colors. You can easily modify your popsicle so it has 5 or more colors. Just repeat rounds 24-29 of the 4-color popsicle pattern for each additional color you’d like to add. When you are at the desired popsicle height or number of colors, skip to the round 30 where you’ll start decreasing at the bottom.
